Wavin Twinwall

Wavin TwinWall is manufactured by a twin extrusion process. TwinWall comprises of two HDPE (high density polyethylene) pipes which are extruded simultaneously! one inside the other, and heat welded together in one continuous process.

Wavin TwinWall is an easy and cost effective plastic pipe system ideal for the collection of surface and sub-surface water drainage such as filter and carrier drains.

TwinWall pipe is manufactured from 100% re-cycled material such as plastic bottles and containers which are taken from the waste chain.
Pipes are supplied in 6 metre lengths, unperforated or perforated. Perforated pipe has slots equally spaced around its circumference.

Half perforated pipe has slots located in only one half of the pipe circumference, resulting in the permeable area being halved.
TwinWall when slotted exceeds the Department of Transport's minimum requirement of 1000mm2 per metre length.

The pipes are black in colour, the outer wall being corrugated and the inner wall having a smooth finish to assist the hydraulic flow. A comprehensive range of push fit components are also available for each diameter.

Strength of Character

Wavin TwinWall is classed as a flexible pipe and as such it is recognised that it is designed to deform under loading.
The predicted 50 year ultimate stiffness of the pipes exceeds the minimum requirement of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions and the Highways Agency requirements.

TwinWalI can be used as an alternative to those listed for surface water drainage in Table 5/1 of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW), Volume 5.

The Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR) for a typical plastic pipe is 41.

The equivalent SDR for Wavin TwinWall is 18 (the lower the SDR the greater the resistance to loading). Therefore, Wavin TwinWall will adequately resist impact loads normally encountered during installation.

The pipes will perform within the required design limits under main traffic loading at depths ranging from 0.5 metres to 10 metres in a wide range of bedding conditions.

Application

Wavin TwinWall systems are designed for use in gravity surface and storm water drainage applications. Adaptors and Reducers are available for connection to traditional materials.

Uses Include: Highways Filter Drains, Carrier Drains, Golf Course land Drainage, Surface Water / Main, Culverts, Catchpits, Landfill / land Reclamation, Methane Gas Venting, Leachate Drainage.

Features & benefits

  • TwinWall is lightweight, making installation quicker with reduced Health and Safety risks.
  • Ease of installation and the elimination of wastage reduces labour and plant costs.
  • Longer lengths and fewer joints assist in both flow capacity and self cleaning velocity.

  • The flexibility of TwinWall eliminates the need for rocker pipes, and the pipe can be cut on site.
  • TwinWall is resistant to naturally occurring chemicals and is therefore suitable for use in the majority of soil conditions.
